Current HIECSW Projects Reducing length of stay for transurethral surgery
Using a combination of service redesign and new technology, evidence suggests that we can reduce our length of stay for TURP and TURBT from 3-4 days to 1-2 days.
Reducing mortality, complications and length of stay for the elderly patient undergoing emergency abdominal surgery.
We will use improvement methodology; measurement of patient risk, a surgical patient bundle, segmentation of the care pathway and targeted post-operative care to reduce complications or improve their detection and management.

Using technology to assist with reducing hospital admissions for people with UTI
The Use of Telehealth to Manage Patients with Long Term Conditions - Pro-active case management of vulnerable older people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Heart Failure (HF)
To support the domiciliary management of the patients with COPD and heart failure in Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole, by enabling patients to monitor their condition, using telehealth equipment.
One-stop Day Case elective surgery: safe efficient elective treatment eliminating the unnecessary steps and costs.
To standardise a one-stop day case pattern of elective surgery. This means that patients with a range of conditions requiring operation are fully assessed and treated at a single hospital visit. The project will focus on hernia and gallbladder surgery as exemplars.
Supporting the integrated care of patients across the community (health system) using COPD as an examplar.

The project will adopt and adapt the principles and processes of Neighbourhood Watch from the criminal justice system and apply it to healthcare as Neighbourhood Health Watch.

This project will pilot innovative online education and support for GPs to reduce inappropriate referrals and ensure appropriate treatment for undiagnosed and untreated allergy.
Modified Air Mattress for Frail Elderly Patients & Immobile Patients
Air mattresses are recommended for frail and immobile patients with grade 3 /4 pressure sores. In the semi recumbent position these patients often slide down the air mattress exacerbating their pressure sores. A relative minor air cell modification may overcome this problem
Nutrition Education and Training for Health Professionals in Cancer Care
Cancer survivors look to health professionals for accurate and authoritative advice on food, health and nutrition. High quality education and training is needed for health professionals to meet this need

People with impaired sight or dexterity find Insulin Pens difficult to use, and need care staff to assist at home for daily pen use. “Pen Station” makes patients self-sufficient.
Magnetic cable management strap for use under hospital beds
There is no satisfactory means to stop electric cables for equipment on hospital beds trailing on ward floors, - causing safety & infection control issues. This device solves the problem.
Personal device to manage the distressing Rectocele condition
Rectocele – a form of female pelvic floor prolapse. The rectum herniates through a vaginal tissue-wall tear, obstructing bowel emptying. This vaginal device enables women to re-align the rectum for voiding.
